Kurious Privacy Policy

Kurious is built and operated by Galapptic LLC. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

Kurious does not require an account, and we do not collect your name, email address, phone number, or other directly identifying information. The information the app does handle is:

• An anonymous identifier. The first time you open the app, it generates a random identifier. It is not derived from your name, email, or device, and it is stored securely on your device.
• Your progress. Your streak, liked topics, saved facts, and achievements (such as stars collected and topics read) are saved on your device and backed up to our servers under your anonymous identifier, so your progress can survive app updates, reinstalls, and new phones.
• An anonymous daily usage count. Once per day, the app tells our server it was opened so we can see roughly how many people use Kurious each day. This count contains no identifier and cannot be tied to you or your device.

Signing in with Apple is optional. If you choose to, we store Apple's anonymous user identifier alongside your anonymous identifier so we can restore your progress when you sign in on a new device. We do not store your name or email address. If you do not sign in with Apple, you may not be able to recover your progress if you switch devices.

Kurious relies on the following services, each of which is subject to its own privacy policy: Supabase (database hosting for content and your backed-up progress), Railway (server hosting), Anthropic (an AI tool that helps write topic content in advance; no information about you is sent to Anthropic), and Apple (Sign in with Apple, and any crash reports or analytics you have chosen to share with developers in your iOS settings).

Photos in the app are loaded from Wikimedia Commons and Unsplash. As with any image request, those services can see your IP address when your device downloads a photo.

We do not sell or share your data with any third parties for advertising or marketing purposes.

Your backed-up progress is kept for as long as you use Kurious so that it can be restored, or until you ask us to delete it. Anonymous daily usage counts are kept in aggregate. If you contact us by email, your message is retained only as long as needed to respond.

You have the right to request deletion of the data associated with your use of the app, including your backed-up progress. Contact us at hello@galapptic.com and we will work with you to identify and delete it.

This app is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
